Newbottle Estate

Alice Townsend represents Newbottle Estate Farms. The Estate has been owned by her family since F.E. Smith first moved to Charlton in the 1900's. The farm is a partnership between John and Lady Juliet Townsend and is managed day to day by their daughter.

Newbottle Estate is a 520 ha grass and arable farm.  We mainly grow cereals, oil seed rape and feed crops for our cattle.  All key arable operations are carried out by NDR.  We also produce Newbottle Beef from our Aberdeen Angus and small Longhorn herd.  Newbottle Beef is exclusively marketed through Brackley Butchers, which is part of the Estate.  The Estate also has several residential property lets in Charlton.  The ethos of the farm has always been to maximise performance whilst maintaining high standards.  Our aim is to produce all products and services to a very high level whilst taking our responsibilities as custodians of the countryside very seriously.

WS Deeley & Son

Ed Deeley

Ed Deeley is NDR's operations manager looking after machinery purchases and day to day operations.  He also manages his family farm with his father Richard Deeley at Manor Farm, Souldern.

It is a mixed 275 ha farm of which 175 ha are in arable production.  The remainder are grassland and woodland made up predominantly of historic parkland and water meadows.  The farm is running several environmental schemes to preserve water meadows and beautiful parkland as well as Entry Level Scheme being run across the whole farm.  We also farm a further 188 ha of arable on contract for Joe Pickford of JW Pickford & Son, Ashgrove Farm, Ardley.  This is an interesting place to farm as we also utilise green waste compost and the arable system has to fit around an extensive livestock system. In 2009 we completed a substantial development of our grainstore facilities.  We can, therefore now offer a high quality drying and storage service to local farmers.
